The VOI approach combines scientific validation, proven impact on the field, and brings depth, knowledge and effective tools for intra- and intergroup conflict management in communities, addressing the underlying challenges in fragile environments and pave the way for sustainable development.
The VOI Approach: A Systematic, Scientific, Community-Based Framework
At the heart of our work is the VOI approach—a scientifically grounded, community-based framework developed at the University of Cambridge. Our approach achieves:
Social Impact: We strengthen interpersonal bonds and reduce intergroup tensions, fostering peaceful coexistence and minimizing violence.
Economic Impact: We support local economic development interventions. Without improved economic conditions, any peace achieved is not sustainable.
Governance Impact: We help build inclusive and representative local governance structures that strengthen local capacity and resilience.
The Impact of Peacebuilding on Communities
Peace is transformative. When communities experience stability, the benefits are far-reaching: children can attend school safely, local businesses can thrive, and citizens gain the confidence to invest in their futures.
Our past projects in Guinea-Bissau with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where communities experienced historical land disputes, have effectively improved 98% of socioeconomic indicators across all dimensions—ranging from violence and tensions to economic, social, and emotional well-being. One community member expressed it best:
"Here only this method (VOI) would work. You are not trying to find out who is right and who is to blame, but instead focusing on what we share in common. God sent VOI."
